Blastfurnace zine, 2001. Never saw free copy, thank you very much.
1)
Where, when and how band formed? How did you get the name?
-History is not very long. It was back in '99 when rather spontaneously debut promo/demo
was made. I don't remember how long earlier came idea of doing the most explicit porn
grind with lyrics/artwork focused on facial cumshots (reason explained in early bio / some
flyers / website), and Creamface felt like obvious name for the band.
2)
Who or what influences you creatively and musically?
-There's very little of new grind that I listen. Most of my favorite grinders and
influences come from late 80's and early 90's: old NAPALM DEATH, old O.L.D., old BLOOD,
old CARCASS, etc.
Lyrics & artwork are influenced primarily by bizarre pornography (despite Creamface
have remained rather normal sex all the time). There is no bands that give influence for
those.
3)
Any side projects of works?
-I've played during c. 10 years in several bands & still do. The one I should
mention now is collaboration project "Misogynist Creamer", which includes mixed
line-up of Creamface and Misogynist Pussyslasher.
4)
What's the music scene where you are like?
-You mean Finland? It's very diverse and there is excellent bands in most of underground
genres. Also grind is more popular than it used to be few years ago. At least it feels
like it. I'm in contact with very few grind people. Best contacts are with Misonynist
Pussyslasher / Irritate / Hostile Reggression Records as they have many similar views.
5)
What does 2001 hold in store for the band?
-"Young & Willing" mCDr and split CDr with Nekro-Torso came out and
split CD with Misogynist Pussyslasher will be out later. I also expect long delayed
7" version of "Young & Willing" come out sometime during this year -
hopefully. There is no plans / goals really. Just do something when it feels like it. No
plans to seek for labels as I'm tired of waiting other people to do what they promised.
6)
What is the state of metal in your opinion?
-I try to forget all about "hiphop metal", gothic metal, folk metal, symphonic
metal, etc and keep myself focused on music/noise I like. State of metal is that it is too
accepting for all kind of semi-metal bands take over the genre. These days in Europe there
is probably more metal bands with keyboards, flute & violin than with basic
guitar/bass/drums line-up. And then again, there is more of bands playing pop melodies and
calling it death or black metal.
Although grind is rather diverse music style, it is not crowded by damn
"musicians" like metal. Grind is really just scene for fanatics.
7)
How often you guys practice? And what kind of gear do you use?
-Creamface is not rehearsing much. Just a little before recordings. Too many
grind bands tend to do most primitive and brutal records at first and then use
"learning to play" or "growing as musician" as excuse to start doing
boring stuff. Creamface plays music like I want to hear, and skills what are needed to
create it, has been learned years ago. Now it's just about maintaining them - no need to
rehearse too much.
Gear is minimal. Basic instruments. Tama rockstar drum kit and who've made the guitar
& bass,... I don't know/care. Vocals have some effects from digitech-rp5 multi-effect
box.
8)
What has the band put out so far?
-promo/demo '99
-"Maximized Fetish" CD-r
-split CDr w/ Nekro-Torso (include debut tape as bonus tracks)
-"young & willing" mCDr with 8+ minutes of bonus material
-"young & willing" 7"ep (not out yet... should have)
and
coming:
-split CD w/ Misogynist Pussyslasher
9)
What is the wildest thing you've ever seen live?
-You mean on live shows? There isn't anything really extraordinary what I can remember.
10)
What do you guys do for work outside the band?
-All related to underground. Music, noise, pornography. For work as well as
hobby.
11)
What do you think the greatest thing metal has ever done for you?
-I'm very glad I'm not some factory worker or sweating with long studies to get myself in
good position in society. I've always been rather anti-social, so eventually I would have
ended up here. However, my involvement in underground music basically started due interest
in Kreator, so I can thank them for helping myself into current situation where I live.
12)
Is there anything you'd like to add?
-Contacts from perverse porn collectors welcome.
